First Anniversary Gratitude Message from helpNYC Founder Joshua ParkinOctober 10, 2019 10:00a
Through my personal recovery journey, I learned that being of service to another person in need is the fastest and easiest way to solve my problems. I had this wealth of information that I had collected over the years and would tap into it to help friends that needed help. I noticed that my friends were asking for the same type of information over and over again. I gathered my information and put together some “street sheets” to share with my friends and that ignited an idea to establish a website accessible to everyone.
As I started floating my ideas with friends and colleagues, I got more discouragement than support. I struggled with my own doubts that I could help people. A year ago today, I was struggling with life on life’s terms and put caution to the wind. helpNYC was born.
That night I bought joshp.nyc that would later become helpNYC.info. I transcribed my “street sheets” on to the website and launched a very modest website that has turned into a robust site covering over twenty-one topics helping people live a beautiful life.
So, this first anniversary of helpNYC warms my heart. Being able to provide low-barrier, verified, and safe resources to find help is deeply important to me. I was once homeless on the streets of New York. I was once hungry. I was once desperate for medical care. I once was not able to ask for help. And so many New Yorkers have the same problems.
To celebrate this first anniversary, would you please spread the word about helpNYC? Below are three ways you can help!
In closing, I want to express my gratitude for those who have supported helpNYC. I also want to let those struggling with life know, that you are worthy of respect, dignity, and hope. You can do this!
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart of this first anniversary. ~josh
